Under the Tree

Fresh-cut fir right up front, cold and green, the smell that hits you the second the tree comes through the door. Underneath it, warm cedar wood that settles in and stays.

This is Christmas morning before anybody else is up. Lights still on from the night before, house quiet, and that tree in the corner doing all the talking.
